John Hillcoat is an award-winning Australian writer and director. His movie credits include Ghosts… of the Civil Dead, To Have and to Hold, and The Proposition. Hillcoat has won 5 Australian Film Institute awards for his movies Ghosts… Of the Civil Dead and The Proposition. Hillcoat also directed dozens of music videos for bands like Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Depeche Mode and Bush.
Hillcoat’s latest project is a big screen adaptation of the best-selling, Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Road. Hillcoat directs an all-start cast featuring Charlize Theron, Robert Duvall, Guy Pearce and newcomer Kodi Smit-McPhee. It is the epic story of the survival of a father and his young son as they journey across a barren America that was destroyed by a mysterious cataclysm. The Road will open nationwide in theatres on November 25, 2009 by The Weinstein Company.
